Top 3 Reasons Your Seat Belt May Be Stuck

#1. Old or Torn Seat Belt Webbing.

What is seat belt webbing?

Seat Belt Webbing is is the part of the seat belt that is in contact with the passenger that receives and also softens the shock of an impact. It is often times made of polyester. It is essentially the fabric part of the seat belt. If your webbing is either old or frayed your retractor will likely, have a very difficult time doing it's job as your webbing will have difficulty moving inside the assembly.

If your seat belt webbing is frayed or torn in the event of an accident you are at risk. Please make sure all your seat belt webbing is in good condition.

#2. Something May be Stuck Inside the Seat Belt Retractor.

Seat Belt Retractors are extremely sensitive contraptions, and for good reason as its in charge of your safety. However, since they are so finicky even the slightest internal malfunction may make your seat belt be found unusable. Often times small pieces of the seat belt wear off and get lodged in the retractor causing your seat belt to get stuck.

#3. Your Seat Belt Is Deployed.

If your car has been in an accident your seat belts are very likely to be locked up.
There is a small pyrotechnic charge inside the seat belt retractor that goes off in the
event of an accident. It goes off to instantly catch and retract an excess slack in the webbing
