Not sure if your seat belt is blown? You're in the right place.

The process of checking if a seat belt is deployed or not is extremely simple. Using an ohmmeter check the resistance between the two metal prongs inside the receptacle.

Be sure to separate the metal prongs to make sure you are getting an accurate and correct reading.

The resistance should not be any greater than 3.0 ohms and no less than 1.5 ohms. If the resistance is greater then 3.0 Ohms or less than 1.5 Ohms your seat belt is very likely to be deployed and your seat belt needs to be repaired. However, if it is in the normal range of resistance your seat belt is likely not blown. Another great way to tell if your seat belt is blown is by simply shaking it if its blown you'll likely hear a rattle type noise, While not all car seat belts have metallic balls inside the pretensioner some if not most do. If you're not sure of all the parts of the seat belt we have another great article explaining the typical seat belt assembly found inside a car.
